Science Best Practices

As a profession, teachers of Science must continually strive to learn from research, remain current within a dynamic field, effectively serve an increasingly diverse student population and constantly improve the results obtained by students. Practices that produce these characteristics, and are both replicable as well as supported by data, become known as “best practice” in the field. The documents here attempt to capture the current state of best practice for science education as of July 2011.

High School Science Course Implementation for Standards and Graduation Requirements

This doucment clarifies the science graduation requirements and relate requirements for licensure.  It give examples of course sequences that meet these requirement.

Using a Career and Technical Education (CTE) credit to meet the chemistry credit or physics credit requirement

The 2011-12 legislative session made changes to the science graduation requirements. The revised statute 120B.024 allows a Career and Technical Education credit to fulfill the chemistry/physics requirement for students who graduate beginning in 2015.  There are several conditions that must be met. The attached document provides advice to districts in fulfilling the statute.
