The science portion of this STEM Teacher Center was originally developed to support instruction for the 2009 Minnesota science standards. Hence the Frameworks of activities and resources for individual standards reference those standards. Unfortunately, many of the links in those resources are out of date or inactive. Minnesota has a new set of science standards written in 2019. We are seeking funding and capacity to update the STEM Teacher Center to support the new standards. Meanwhile, we are offering a brief listing of some resources to support the new standards and maintaining many of the resources that were written for the 2009 standards which are still relevant. Documents supporting the new 2019 science standards will, for now, be added to this resource section.

The entries listed below are in the process of being superceded by content that reflects more recent research. New current content will appear above this notice. The older content below is kept for historical reference. It may be updated or removed in the future as appropriate.

As a profession, teachers of mathematics must continually strive to learn from research, remain current within a dynamic field, effectively serve an increasingly diverse student population and constantly improve the results obtained by students. Practices that produce these characteristics, and are both replicable as well as supported by data, become known as “best practice” in the field. The documents here attempt to capture the current state of best practice for mathematics education as of July 2011.

This doucment clarifies the science graduation requirements and relate requirements for licensure.  It give examples of course sequences that meet these requirement.

The 2011-12 legislative session made changes to the science graduation requirements. The revised statute 120B.024 allows a Career and Technical Education credit to fulfill the chemistry/physics requirement for students who graduate beginning in 2015.  There are several conditions that must be met. The attached document provides advice to districts in fulfilling the statute.

The title of the 2014 MCTM Symposium was "Smarter Than We Think" and featured Cathey Seeley and her book by the same title. The focus of the ongoing work was focused on the Mathematical Practices.
